Though they’ve been around forever, I am pretty new to the world of Artist Trading Cards (ATCs). I just love these little works of art, never larger than a playing card, and never sold – only traded or given away. They are amazing microcosms of such a range of talent – and seem to be created by young and old alike. They’re great projects for your 2nd grade class, as well as art therapy for seniors. They’re fun, and they can be as simple or as detailed as the artist wishes it to be. The important thing to remember is that it’s art! No doubt about it!

There are trading groups all over Facebook, as well as on the web. Pinterest has lots and lots of boards showcasing them. And you can just make them for yourself – as miniature works-of-art for your own pleasure.

For the new year, I’ve started creating what I call RAKATCs, which are ATCs with motivating, fun, and creative messages to share with family, friends, strangers, anyone who needs a little pick me up. Stay tuned for this exciting project!
Though my ATCs tend to be paper-craft-related from my card-making and scrapbook background, I am also dabbling in watercolors and pen & ink designs. Should be interesting!
Here’s to lots of art in 2024!!
