If you’re anything like me, you’ve got multiple stacks of fabric, and they’re all over the place. Well, recently, I decided it was time to see what I had, and figure out a way to organize it so I could find it easily. Stacking in clear plastic bins is one great way to go, especially if you’re talking about large amounts of each fabric style. But for me, working mostly with cottons and lighter materials in increments of less than 5 yards each, I wanted to come up with something a bit easier to view. And then it hit me — why not repurpose some older file cabinets with hanging pendaflex file folders, and store my fabric that way? I can see the fabric at a quick glance, and also know when I’m running low on a style I need to keep on hand. Like magic, I felt organized and efficient, and it didn’t cost a cent!
One of my secrets: I basically fold the fabric, and then drape it over a piece of 8.5 x 11″ heavy cardstock, so the fabric has something to warp around, then place it in the hanging folder. It really is a game changer!
