Jumping On the Starter Bandwagon

Social media has proven that in times of pandemic, one of the most common pastimes that connects us all is the art of bread baking. Sourdough starters have risen (pardon the pun) across the land, with photos of successful attempts, and not-so-successful attempts, plastering the pages of Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. Some looking like the 50’s era Blob monster, dripping down the side of their containers, and others looking like refined, professional bakers’ perfection.

Up until now, I’ve avoided the sourdough starter craze, mainly because my hubby’s not a fan of sourdough, and I do really well with my non-sourdough home-baked breads. But, alas, I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and give it a try.

I went with one of my tried and true sources for baking recipes, King Arthur Flour. Find their recipe here. It looked too dry to me after the initial mix, but my Artisan Facebook group friends have told me to give it a bit of time. So time I shall give it!

And I’ll update my photo as I feed it and it grows (fingers crossed), or it proves to be a complete disaster! Stay tuned…
