Back in NY, one of my favorite breakfast meals was a fried egg, ham and cheese sandwich from the deli on 44th Street. They’d fix it up on the grill, and serve it on a fresh Kaiser roll, and with a cup of coffee, it was the perfect ‘eat-at-my-desk’ breakfast fare. Nowadays, here in Seattle, no one makes these. So if I want one, I’ve got to make it in my own kitchen.
Today’s rolls from the America’s Test Kitchen Bread Illustrated cookbook are perfect for these breakfast sandwiches. And I can have a small taste of NYC 3000 miles away!
